Kaos has constructed his most diabolical plan ever, The Tournament of DOOM!! he lures the Skylanders into the tournament and caused them to fight each other for his entertainment. Unlike most Skylander games with an action/adventure element, the game focuses more on fighting in a manner similar to most fighting games (Tekken, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, ETC) considering this as a spin-off to the Skylanders series.
